The ocean in many parts of Africa and other parts of the world is a symbol of peace, tranquility, and stability. It is also connected to spirituality and sometimes considered as a realm of spirits. The ocean is as wonderful as it sounds, and can also be a symbol of destruction due to natural causes or due to inexperience or impatience of the navigator. For instance, if a non-swimmer jumps into the ocean, the outcome will most likely be bad.
The proverb, “The ocean never swallows a person whose leg it does not come in contact,” can be loosely translated as, if you do not dabble into risky behaviors then you will not get into trouble.
Like the ocean, gambling can bring a sense of peace and tranquility to the gambler initially. However, it can quickly become destructive, and the gambler can get swallowed completely. Just like dabbing your toes into the ocean and being overpowered by the ocean waves, trying out gambling can become addictive and overpowering. The key is not to try it in the first place.
