The goat according to beliefs in some parts of Africa exemplifies protective and procreative powers. Goats are also a very important part of the rural economy in most African countries. In other words the goat is a superstar. The proverb, “Black goats must be caught early, before it gets dark’’ can be interpreted in several ways. Literally, it means if you do not catch a black goat during the day, then it becomes difficult for you to see the same black goat when it gets dark. The goat blends with the darkness and the feat of catching it becomes impossible. In other words it is better to take action, achieve goals, take care of situations, and get help before it becomes too late.
Just like the person trying to catch a black goat in the dark, a gambler may find it difficult to quit gambling if they do not seek help on time especially when there is help available. Ignoring the first signs of problem gambling may lead to a very serious addiction which may be very difficult to treat. It is always easier to seek our black goats in broad daylight.
